About

Historic Calcasieu Courthouse, is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Built in 1912, it is managed and maintained by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The Courthouse houses our office, as well as the Registrar of Voters, and the Civil Sheriffs office. The Judicial Center, which adjoins the Courthouse, was built in 1994 and is the current location of all civil and criminal hearings.

There are some who believe that the Courthouse is haunted by the ghost of Toni Jo Henry, who was electrocuted in 1942 after being convicted of murder. The Courthouse has often been visited by paranormal enthusiasts, and is listed on the state’s list of “Haunted Places to visit in Louisiana.”
